Workshop on the occasion of 60 years of vacuum metrology at PTB
The laboratory for vacuum physics was established at PTB in 1966. At that time, vacuum-related industry was a new emerging field and reliable measuring technology for vacuum technology had to be developed. National Metrology Institutes (NMI) were required to provide fundamental measurement standards for vacuum. PTB was among the first worldwide to do so. Nowadays, many NMIs in developed industrial countries provide fundamental measurement standards for vacuum and are conducting research to improve and reorganise vacuum metrology.

This anniversary is a good opportunity to reflect on where vacuum measurement technology stands and where it can and should go. Laseroptical methods are about to replace the classical methods to realise the pascal. The digitalization of measurement systems and service does not stop at vacuum measurement technology. This workshop aims to discuss the present and future perspectives of vacuum metrology from a variety of angles: The past, research, metrology, and industry and users. Prominent speakers are invited to share their views. The workshop will be followed by a social event to mark the retirement of Karl Jousten. |
